Ingredients of Karaikkudi Chicken Masala

Cooking time: 30 minutes


Oil, Chicken (1 kg.), 1 finely chopped onion, 1 chopped tomato, 5 chopped garlic cloves, salt, 1 tsp. red chilli powder, 1 tsp. turmeric powder, 1 tsp. yogurt, 1/2 cup ginger-garlic paste, 1 tbsp. poppy seeds, 1 tsp. fennel seeds, 2 tbsp. grated coconut, 8 cloves, green chillies, cinnamon sticks, cardamom, 2 bay leaves, 1 tbsp. chopped curry leaves, 4-5 black pepper corns and 8-10 coriander seeds 

Procedure for Preparing Karaikkudi Chicken Masala

  1. Wash and clean chicken pieces under running water.
  2. Marinate the chicken pieces with salt, ginger-garlic paste, red chillies. Keep aside for 1 hour.
  3. Grind all the spices, coconut, poppy and fennel seeds adding little water and making a thick paste.
  4. Heat oil in a pan and add garlic, onion and fry for a few minutes. Add the above prepared paste to the pan and sauté for some time. Add chopped tomatoes, salt, marinated chicken pieces and cook for another 5-6 minutes.
  5. Add the coconut paste now and cook for some time. Now add water, cover the pan and cook on low flame.

Check if the chicken is cooked well. If yes, take out your best serving dish and invite your family members for a lovely dinner together. Time to enjoy a flavoursome Karaikkudi chicken masala with steamed rice!
